The First Night Game 1949

A truly  Historical visit by Balmain to  Western Australia to play three games against Western Australia.  ….. The programme featured is from the first ever WA State senior team fixture vs a NSWRL team  (Balmain). Significant as this may be ..the extra significance of this match is that it was the first floodlight game for rugby league in this state and was played at Fremantle Oval on Thursday Night 15th September 1949 kicking off at 8.45pm. The referee was J O'Brein and the captains were Jim Carroll from WA and B Lulham (Balmain) .
